Numbering range information

30 March 2007 - Mayotte leaves +269, changes to +262

Mayotte numbers, which had a shared numbering plan with Comoros, will change to conform to the France system. The numbers will leave country code +269 on 30 March 2007 and change to country code +262, shared with Reunion.

At that point, only Comoros will use +269.

For the new numbering, see Mayotte and Reunion page.

This page will retain the historic information for Mayotte numbering as shared with Comoros under +269.

April 2005 - updated Comoros / Mayotte numbering format

Prior to 2007, country code +269 was shared by the islands of Comoros and Mayotte.

Comoros became independent of France in 1975. Its telephone facilities are provided by SNPT.

Telephone service for Mayotte, a territory of France, is apparently provided through France Telecom.

Anjouan temporarily seceded from Comoros during 1997-2002 after which a political arrangement granted each Comoros island a President.

From most recent available information, subscriber numbers in Comoros and Mayotte are 6 digits, where Mayotte numbers begin with digits '2' or '6' and Comoros with digits '3' or '7':

Combined numbering ranges for Comoros and Mayotte Island are:

+269-800: Toll-free Global269 plan

There is an effort by Comoros carrier ComoreTel to create an international toll free service using its conventional country code, and a special area code: +269-800.

This "Global269" service would depend on co-operation of international carriers to allow their callers to place the calls to +269-800 without charge. Note that carriers in many countries may assess toll charges to these numbers if there is no agreement to honour these numbers as toll-free.

Global269 appears to be a reaction to the slow growth of the official UIFN +800 service.

See news articles in http://www.comoretel.com/news_room.htm.

Other Information

Major Comoros carrier is Société Nationale des Postes et des Télécommunications (SNPT).
