00 is now the international prefix and 0 the domestic trunk prefix replacing the former 8-10 and 8 prefixes respectively.

Georgian carrier United Telecom uses both 00 and 8-16 as international calling prefixes.

1 June 2008 - Magti Fix

New number range +995 90 xxxxxx, or domestically 8 + 90 xxxxxx (including trunk prefix), was introduced for the introduction of Magti Fix, a wireless based premises-based voice and data service.

Magti GSM announced new number range +995 95 xxxxxx in addition to its existing +995 99 xxxxx range.

Within Georgia, +995 95 corresponds to 895 domestic prefix (incorporating trunk prefix '8'). +995 99 corresponds to 899 domestic prefix.

20 February 2004 - auction for international access codes

The Georgian National Communications Commission will conduct an auction to licence carriers for reserved international long access codes: 8-13, 8-61, 8-63 and 8-69. The auction is scheduled 20 February 2004.

20 August 1995 - new area codes

Following its departure from the former Soviet Union numbering plan under country code +7, Georgia temporarily maintained the USSR-based area codes which began with '88'.

On 15 April 1995, new area codes were introduced by removing the initial '88' from the USSR-era area code. A number in Tbilisi was originally +7 8832 xxxxxx under the USSR system, which became +995 8832 xxxxxx upon introduction of country code +995, then +995 32 xxxxxx in the 1995 renumbering.

There was a permissive mode where both old and new numbering could be used until 20 August 1995.
