Numbering range information

October 1999 - national 7-digit numbering

A national 7-digit numbering plan came into effect on October 1999, replacing the previous 6-digit plan (and presumably a 5-digit plan in many areas before that).

The existing 6-digit Mauritel subscriber numbers in Akjoujt, Aleg, Kiffa, Nouadhibou, Nouakchott, Rosso were prepended with the digit '5' to form the new 7-digit national subscriber numbers. '5' is also prepended to the existing 6-digit radio numbers (land and maritime) for Nouadhibou and Nouakchott.

In some areas, a new 3-digit prefix is combined with the last 4 digits of the existing subscriber number to form the new 7-digit national number:

Place     New Prefix
=====     ==========
Aîoun        515
Atar         546
Boghé        550
Kaédi        533
Néma         513
Sélibaby     534
Tidjikja     569
Zouerate     544
The former 6-digit cellular mobile numbers (Mattel 30xxxx and Mauritel Mobiles 40xxxx) were converted to 7-digit format by prepending the digit '6'.

Short Codes (of form 1x) are as follows:
